This wonderful bed is made of solid bamboo. With a beautiful panel headboard and a lower, more economical footboard, this bed has become very popular.

This Slat Bed With Peak designed around classic slats forming the headboard and footboard. Through-tenons at the sides and peaked top rails decorate this bed in the understated style typical of the Arts and Crafts movement. This bed was built in medium-stained quartersawn white oak. The headboard height is 48 in. The footboard is 36 in. tall. The bed frame is built 3 in. wider and 4 in. longer than the corresponding mattress size.

Furniture quality is determined mainly by three things – materials, joinery and finish. We use only the finest Northern Quartersawn White Oak and Cherry. White oak is harder, denser, and has longer, more attractive rays than red oak. White oak stands up much better than red oak over time. In fact, white oak is what is commonly used for wine barrels, since it is waterproof. White oak was the preferred wood for Arts & Crafts furniture in the early 1900s. When we build furniture in our woodshop we use the most appropriate joint for the application.

Quartersawn white oak is prized for its beauty. The medullar rays add striking patterns to the grain, ranging from lively stripes to dramatic swirls to dazzling flashes. Quartersawn white oak carries a stately, historical appearance with a strong aesthetic appeal.
