Rockridge Furniture in Oakland is not just a furniture store, it is a family company. Established in 1970, “Rockridge Antiques” was born as a collectable furniture restoration business. Today we collect and sell enduring, high quality objects for your home.

Rockridge furniture history

Imagine growing up surrounded by beautiful, solid wood tables, chairs, dressers and sofas that make you feel supported, comfortable, and connected. Imagine doing homework under the light of lamp that looks like a jury box. This is what happened to me.

40 years ago, my father went on a long trip to Massachusetts and brought home truck of old antique furniture. Next 3 month he spent fixing it, polishing it, repairing the fabric.

“Rickridge Antiques” furniture store was opened the same year. We have been located on the College avenue ever since.

Rockridge – the place and the spirit

A small town in the middle of the big city – this is Rockridge district in the heart of Oakland.

Rockridge is one of the East Bay’s best residential and shopping neighborhoods. More than 2000 craftsman cottages created by middle class housing boom of the beginning of the 20th century. Most of the architecture in the area is a California Mission Style – solid walls, arched corridors, low sloping roofs, wide terraces.

This is the place were I grew up and most of the furniture that we collect in our store in someway belongs to that culture, resonates the spirit of an old Rockridge district – beautiful, reliable.

What is Rockridge style?

Sustainable furniture for a sustainable life – solid, ecological, lasting.

As the world is changing, things that make us better, stronger stay. We are done with the mechanical, cheap, short lived objects. We want natural, solid, supportive, lasting.

Rockridge Style came directly from the local culture and local history, – a combination of classic and contemporary.

More then half of our collection is influenced by the Mission Style furniture, another half is modern,  handcrafted quality sitting, dining, sleeping and accents.

The Rickridge Style is created in the spirit of life. I love to think of the furniture as a life extension of a tree. Trees, like people, have a natural life cycle and a finite life span. When we make furniture we give a tree a new longer lasting life, make that tree a part of our family.

The Rockridge Style stands for integrity in construction, purity in form, healthy and safe production.

Materials
All our furniture is made of simple, safe and sustainable materials – solid wood, safely treated, durable and recyclable.

The Finish
All surfaces are finished with non-toxic dyes and coated with a durable and transparent.

The Upholstery
We choose textiles that are made of sustainably harvested and rapidly renewable hemp, or organic cotton, all of witch are non-toxic and comply with The Global Organic Textile Standards.
