What Sets Our Custom Furniture Apart
In most stores, the furniture on display is similar to a to-go container sitting in your workplace’s refrigerator: you don’t know where it’s from, how long it’s been there, or the quality of what’s inside. In our showroom, we strive to maintain mostly North American custom furniture of higher quality than you’ll usually find elsewhere. From locally made media stands and bedroom furniture to mid-Western made club chairs and Amish made dining tables, your custom piece will be made with the the best construction techniques in the most durable, sustainable materials available.
Furniture Construction
Joinery: Our custom furniture makers use the most appropriate joint for the application. Not popular in factory furniture, mortise and tenon joinery achieves long lasting results. Yet, although mortise and tenon joinery is known as “the best”, even the master craftsman will occasionally use dowels and screws. There are many different types of joints and it’s critical to know which one to use where.
Dovetailed Drawers: The classic technique of dovetailing ensures the strongest joint possible that will resist the daily pulling forces applied to a drawer front. Once these pieces are set in place and glued, nothing short of breakage will pull this drawer apart.
Sofa Frames: All of our custom sofa frames are made with hard, durable wood frames, either sinuous springs or unidirectional webbed suspension, and paired with high density foam cushions. There are hundreds of options, depending on the manufacturer, that can be made to our upholstery lines: eight-way hand tie suspension, down filled cushions, extra firm seating, and even a range of different sleeper mechanisms.
When you come in, ask your designer about the different construction options on the pieces you’re interested.
